Malaysia is an incredible location, so much colour, a must see for any travel fan. The largest and oldest Chinese graveyard outside of China, Bukit Cina is the ancestral burial ground of Malacca’s Chinese community. Also known as Chinese Hill, it has more than 12,500 graves and these days the 20ha hill is primarily used as a jogging track. The burial ground’s fame began with the marriage of Sultan Mansur Shah of Malacca to the Ming emperor’s daughter, Princess Hang Liu.

This northern state is located at the tip of Peninsular Malaysia, bordering Thailand. It is home to some of the most interesting food in Malaysia as it combines flavors from both Malay and Thai cuisines. Perlis is also home to Gua Kelam, one of the oldest caves in Peninsular Malaysia, naturally linking the foot of a hill to a valley 370 meters away. While not as urban developed as the more popular states of Penang and Selangor, Perlis prides itself on its ancient and traditional roots, almost seeming like a fixed point in time of older Malaysia. Malacca is one of the best states to visit for heritage sites and antique stores, and is immensely popular with history lovers and artists. By day it is a town-sized museum, filled with relics from Dutch settlers and Malaysia’s unique Baba Nyonya Peranakan culture; by night it turns into a giant night market, lining the length of Jonker Street.

The islands are known for their nightlife and plenty of watersport, and yes a crowd of young backpackers. So, if you are considering a budget Malaysia tour, Perhentian Islands is the right place to be. Apart from this, at Perhentian Islands also give one the chance to not only watch the sea turtles but also to volunteer to save and conserve them. For those who enjoy hiking, the islands also offer some great opportunity of jungle trekking and sighting big monitor lizards and large spiders between Long Beach and Coral Bay. You can also self-invite to a beach party at Bubu Long Beach resort for enjoying hanging out with other travellers and watching the locals perform.

The Oriental Village in the upper northwest of Langkawi Island, near Pantai Kok, is the entrance for the cable-car ride, which takes visitors all the way up to Mount Mat Cincang, Langkawi’s second highest peak. Entering the village and passing through the pleasant oriental garden and souvenir shops, visitors make their payment at a counter before stepping onto an escalator which brings them to the cable-car pedestal. Look out at the side for a view of the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls, which cascades down a grey rock face. Read extra details on Homestay Melaka.

Named after Britain’s King George III, Georgetown is located on the north-east corner of Penang Island. Most of George Town’s population is of Chinese origin. Due to strict controls, George Town retains many of its colonial-era shophouses to this day. It is officially recognized as having a unique architectural and cultural townscape without parallel anywhere in Southeast Asia. The town truly springs to life in the evenings, when most of the locals head to the nearby street hawkers to have their meals and drinks.
